Just like a tune-up for your car or an annual physical with your doctor, all relationships need a preventative tune-up. There will always be things that bother us about our significant other, but going to a professional can help couples negotiate the treacherous minefield of disagreements and ineffective communication. The counseling office will serve as a safe space to discuss concerns openly, while the counselor is a mediator, a translator of meaning, and will give you both a new perspective on your relationship.

For Families

The MindSpa recognizes that life is complicated with many external factors impacting your family. Your family is all connected, so when one member is dealing with a problem, the whole family is affected. Therefore, at The MindSpa, we believe that the entire family should be part of the process, depending on the situation. We offer counselors who specialize in early childhood development issues (ages 2-12), counselors who focus on teenagers (ages 13-21), and are certified in Parent Child Interactive Training (PCIT). The MindSpa is pleased to offer PCIT to families.

PCIT is a set program endorsed by Cincinnati Children's Hospital for families dealing with difficult behaviors from their children. Originally intended for children who have experienced a traumatic experience, PCIT is an effective 12-14 session program where the parent wears an earpiece while playing with their child. The counselor coaches the parent from another room into a microphone attached to the earpiece.

If your child is having behavioral problems at home or at school such as talking back, lying, stealing, temper tantrums, physical aggression, or other maladaptive behaviors, PCIT is an effective option for parents. With over 20 years of empirical data to support the effectiveness of PCIT, parents are virtually guaranteed better outcomes with their child in compliance, attachment, and overall family happiness up to six years beyond treatment. Families In Transition (FIT)

The MindSpa is pleased to offer the Families in Transition program for parents going through divorce in Kentucky. This court approved program will satisfy the FIT requirement for continuing divorce proceedings. The FIT program is for the parent to attend with their children ages 5-17. The 6 hour class is divided into two 3 hour sessions. The program is facilitated by state certified trainers in helping families with support and guidance during this difficult time. Both parent and children receive educational workbooks as part of the class fee of $50 for the two day program. Please be aware that classes do fill up quickly, so do book your appointment early to secure your spot in the class most convenient to your schedule.
